SLIDE BY ROB MATHIS
TUESDAY AUGUST 19, 2008
POSTED BY

I just received a copy of SLIDE, a book of the photography of Rob Mathis. It turned out incredible. Rob really brought me back to High School and the period of time when I first started getting into snowboarding. For those of you who followed snowboarding in the late 90's; The Forum 8, Mack Dawg Videos Simple Pleasures, Decade, True Life, The Resistance, etc... This book will really bring you back. There are so many moments and frames in this book that I look at now and remember what I was doing when I first saw these photos.

While the weight of the book is about the past there are many photos from the present as well. It's so cool to be able to see all of this in one book. Good job Rob, you have documented the past 15 years of Snowboarding and did it with an artistic approach most photographers only wish they could aspire too.

KOOLEY'S NEW BIKE
SATURDAY JUNE 07, 2008
POSTED BY

After the ride that Jon went on with Jeremy Jones, Tonino Copene, Aaron Bittner, Chris, JP Walker, Rob Mathis, Josh Mills, Seth Huot and friends his bike broke down a hundred miles outside of Salt Lake City. So instead of just fixing it up he decided to build another one with his friend Chris. Here are some pictures of the bike being built and a few photos from the big ride they did.

Bike Frame.

The Garage. Bike Building 101.

The parts. Old or new?

Chris builds bikes for a living. Here he is helping his good friend Jon out. Chris and Jon both grew up in Anchorage together.

The Bike is almost finished

The seat. Got to get the colors dialed.

Kooley, all smiles.

Chris and his whip.

Baker Step Up Session

By Pat McCarthy

Every year as the season is winding down before you toss those nasty boots out for the season in Washington you got to roll to the legendary Mt Baker step up session or your not doin’ it. With the year coming to an end we assembled the troops and had an amazing session up there once again. The media was Simon Turcotte from MDP People, Cory Koniniak and Gary Milton from TWS and Mike Yoshida shooting photos. It took some coordinating but soon we had the crew together and we met up in the upper parking lot to devise a plan.

The crew of riders for this two day event would be Matt Edgers (local hero short wearing crazy northwest nock knee stance havin’ hesher) Blair Habenecht (filming with absinthe soul boarder free riding machine) Lucas Debari (Baker’s golden son Mt Baker Slalom winner 07’ stomp machine), Jesse Burtner (think thanks mastermind and one footed bs spinning machine), Shaun Genovese (crazy artsy man and owner designer of Dinosaurs will Die), Nick Ennen (Northwest local two sport Bo Jackson bad ass) and myself Patrick McCarthy.

Nonetheless the jump turned out better than I have ever hit it with an amazing run in that we never dialed in quite like this. It was dope to watch Washington’s snowboarding. Each rider coming from a different background and film crew come together for the soul purpose to progress and have a good time together. When the smoke had cleared (and this took awhile believe me) everyone had gotten multiple tricks every five forty, rodeo flip, seven, nine, one footer and method had been tossed.

It was a great way to cap off the season and kick off the summer bbq season.

Summer Gardening

By Pat McCarthy

Spring to me means one thing time to work around the house clean up the yard and have some bbq’s with all the homies that you have neglected for the seven months filming your video part.

In life we all have our hero’s mine Martha Stewart and Bob Villa have been getting’ me hyped all spring. Check out the progress of the crib and the yard.

Enjoy your summer, bbq with your friends and enjoy the snow melting in the mountains, traveling to the ocean, condensing into the atmosphere and before we know it the cycle is over and winter is back…

POSTED BY

Shaun McKay has finally made it back home to So Cal. He stopped by the office today to start logging footage. Yep, we put the riders to work over here. Shaun films with his little HD camera and since it has a million timecode breaks we figure he can log it himself. Log Away Shaun, log away.

PLAYING IN THE PARK
FRIDAY MAY 02, 2008
POSTED BY

We just got back from a 10 day park session. The trip started off for 6 days at Snoqualmie Resort in Washington. The crew decided it was better to stay in downtown Seattle rather than up at the hill (everyone is a little burnt out and nice meals mean alot at this point). Danielle from K2 Snowboards hooked us up with a fabulous hotel room in the center of the city. We even had valet parking. Lifestyles of the rich and famous.

The crew was in a good mood even though the weather was not. We played some air guitar and then went up to check out the jump that Krush had built for us.

The jump looked really good. The clouds did not and neither did the forecast. The plan was to just hang out until we had a day of good sun.

This is what the back of our van looked like. All the essentials are here.

After a couple days of waiting we finally got the sunshine that we were looking for.The crew talking about all the double corks, triple backflips, and double backside rodeos that they were gonna do.

Filippo got busy and quickly got a couple 900's of different types. He was riding super well.

Joe was scene doing backflips on his snowmobile. He hadn't ridden a sled all season so he admitted to being a little rusty on his backflips. They came back really quick though.

Pat McCarthy was there as well. It was nice to shoot with Pat since i hadn't all season. Actually. I think i only shot with him one day last season. Anyway, Pat was riding really good as well and ended up getting a whole bunch of different moves.

The crew then headed over to WinterPark Resort in Colorado. Bob Holme is a friend of mine that runs the park over there and he said they had a really good feature that we were welcome to session. Our friend from SLC, Will Tuddenham(left) came on this trip with us and rode really really well.

It was really icy the first couple days in CO. Before we had come to town the weather was really really cold. Finally, it warmed up and we got to session this thing. It was double sided and really really good. Jules and Bob handcarved the entire thing for the most part. I took this photo while Filippo was warming up. They started sending it.

Will ended up sending it a little to far. If you look close, the last track on the right is where he was landing. On one of the airs, which was about 30ft high (10meters for u euro's or canucks), he fell in a wierd way and ended up breaking a couple ribs. Luckily ski patrol helped him out and he ended up being ok.

All in all a great 10 days of park shoots. We would really like to thank Krush at Snoqualmie and Bob at Winterpark and all their dedicated park staff. Without these guys this stuff would never happen.

JOE TURNS 21
WEDNESDAY APRIL 30, 2008
POSTED BY

Last night was Joe Sextons 21st birthday. With everyone still in town and ready to celebrate the season being pretty much over, people were in the mood to partyyyyy. Joe usually doesn't drink. I havent talked to him today but i am sure he is pretty damn hungover, I know i am.

Joe had a long night of big beers like these.

Kooley was there

JP came out too. Joe had a little incident on JP's new Harley earlier that night. Im sure you will all hear about it really soon.

Andy Wright was enjoying the smokey atmosphere

It was Filippo's last night in town. Justin L'Heureux was there as well. As was his girlfriend Cassie

Hampus had a mean mustache going on as usual. Alexis and Marius came to say hi was well.

Mills got in town last night from the long motorcycle ride.

Joe ended up having to drink so many shots of booze. I was proud of the little guy.

The whole night was documented. I cant wait to watch the footage. Jordan is getting a shot of his good buddy Matty Ryan.

Will Tuddenham was there. He just came on a trip with us. Look out for a cameo shot or two in the video this year.

Happy Birthday Joe

.Gabe.

RANDOM JORDAN PHOTO
MONDAY APRIL 28, 2008
POSTED BY

So I'm in the office working on some editing things, while all of the filming crews are at park shoots around the country. I get random photos from random people in the crews and then I make up little stories for these photos and post them on the blog. Here is a photo of Jordan Mendenhall that Shaun McKay sent me.

The story that goes with this photo has to do with five dudes from the PEOPLE crew on location in Washington at a resort called Snoqualmie. These five individuals asked the park crew months in advance to build a really big HIP, and so Snoqualmie built the most massive hip that has ever been built in the whole wide world. Bigger than the hip at Mammoth in the Mack Dawg Movie Follow Me Around. You know which one I'm talking about, Josh Dirksen had a couple covers on it. You got it, that one. Well... it was bigger than that one. Twice as big to be exact.

When this group of five saw the massive HIP they got a little nervous so they called Josh Dirksen to find out what the secret was to hitting such a massive HIP, but Dirksen had gone missing the week prior. Then they remembered a shot in an old Absinthe movie of Romain Demarchi hitting a massive hip. They called Romain. A random girl picked up and told the crew that Romain was busy pleasing her and that he would call back in a bit so the crew just waited and waited and waited. Two, three, four hours went by and finally the phone rang. They looked at the phone and Romain's name was on the caller ID. Just as they went to answer the phone the battery died. Shit.

Then all of a sudden the sky turned black, and then it turned white, and then it turned black again, and then it turned white again and it started dumping snow. It just wouldn't stop. Day after day the PEOPLE crew kept driving to the hill and everyday the weather just sucked.

Finally in the midst of a blizzard Jordan Mendenhall just said FUCK IT and told everyone that he was just going to go hit the damn thing. Well, he climbed up the entire Mountain and as he got to the highest point he could walk to he looked down at the hip to see if he had enough speed to make it up the massive beast. He didn't.

However, it did turn out that Travis Rice was in the area so Jordan called him up and Travis showed up with not one Red Bull helicopter but two Red Bull Helicopters. One always has to be filming the other one he said. Travis picked Jordan up and helicoptered him up to the very very very top of the mountain where Jordan would have enough speed to hit the hip. Jordan then said dropping and dropped in. 2 hours 27 minutes and 33 seconds later, after straight lining it from the very tippy top of the mountain Jordan arrived with enough speed to hit the HIP. This picture is of his very first try. Enjoy.

AFTER SEASON PARK CITY
SUNDAY APRIL 27, 2008
POSTED BY

A couple weeks ago Jim from Park City invited some guys to get a session going on a pretty damn big custom built jump. The jump ended up needing a some last minute touch ups as do alot of huge custom features so we shot some other things in the mean time.

Joe Sexton came to the shoot with us and immediately got inverted on this wall feature that we set up.

This shoot had a little of everything. All the steezes were represented.

SCO DUBB's was there. He actually filmed a pretty good shot of Joe that will most likely make the film. He was doing FS rocknrolls here.

Our good friend Drew Fuller was there. His knee was bruised so he instead had dog duties. Notice the sign.

Jordan and Filippo were there as well.

This friend of a Park City cat driver started hitting the jump. Everyone else waited till the following day and i hear a mean session went down. Anyway, the cat driver ended up getting a perfect FS 900. Impressive.

SATURDAY APRIL 26, 2008
POSTED BY

Photographer Aaron Dodds posted a slideshow of photos from last years park shoot at Aspen / Snowmass, Colorado. I don't think magazines print park shoot photos anymore so it does make for great Web Content. You can check it out by clicking this, DOWN WITH PEOPLE. Just cause it's not blue doesn't mean you can't click it. CLICK IT.

Good work Dodds.
